Get Involved with Poltimore House

Get Involved

There are many ways to get involved with Poltimore House. Each year thousands of people visit or spend time at Poltimore, taking part in events and volunteering activities, enjoying music, theatre and arts, getting involved with the natural world that surrounds us at Poltimore. We have many Events each year, including music, theatre, crafts, gardening, workshops, photography and lectures.

Visit Poltimore House

We have had many arranged visits from organisations with enthusiasm for history and heritage, including the Friends of Torre Abbey, the Georgian Group and Tiverton Archaeology Group among others. If you have a group with a special interest in heritage, wildlife or horticulture and trees, get in touch to arrange a visit to the House and Grounds. Of course what is most important is the tea and/or lunch that goes with the visit!

Poltimore House as a Venue

Poltimore House and the grounds present an amazing venue for a special exhibition, event, meeting or celebration, in the House itself, in the grounds or in the renovated Chapel. We are happy to discuss your plans, and are always happy to work with you to make an event special.

Becoming a Volunteer

There are no paid staff at Poltimore House so the maintenance and care of the house and grounds and the running of many events is all done by volunteers. In the grounds the range of activities goes from clearing of brambles, nettles and sedge to working in the polytunnels to sow and grow flowers and vegetables. Recently volunteers have made new planters for the front of the house and some new raised vegetable beds.
We welcome volunteers regularly on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well as work parties organised by the Friends on the second and forth Saturday of each month. Dates for Saturday work parties  You can also help at our many open days and events. Our Volunteer Manager looks forward to hearing from you! Click Here if you would like to get in touch.

In addition to the useful work done around the site some match-funded grants equate volunteer hours to money raised so every hour ‘donated’ can help us raise money for future improvements

Corporate Volunteering

In recent years we have worked with the the Exeter Shilhay Community, EDF Energy, Elsevier Publishing, The University of Exeter, the Royal College of Nursing, South West Water and the Environment Agency. If your group or company would like to come to Poltimore to help in a practical way, or if you would like to arrange a fundraising event for us, do get in touch.
