Our Plans

Poltimore House has been working with a number of organisations to support its development. In particular work with the University of Exeter has focused on the identification of future sustainable uses for the building. Propositions for now and for the future include:
  • developing Poltimore House as a heritage project, providing a varied programme of events and opportunities to visit. We aim to enable greater engagement and active participation of volunteers, and to make the most of the learning available through the process of research, repair and restoration. The significance of the Poltimore landscape is the focus of the University of Exeter's Community Landscape project, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. A website will provide information on this project as it unfolds, working with the community. See Community Landscape Project
  • developing Poltimore as a focus for learning and education, providing schools, colleges, and students with opportunities to engage in learning, through investigation and creative activities.  The development of the Project Centre, formerly the Edwardian kitchens, will provide space for learning, and the Poltimore archive will finally be properly housed, and ready to record the project as it progresses. Working with the Shilhay Community has begun to show what Poltimore can offer to others, demonstrating the value of learning new skills in conservation-standard repairs, and bringing new training opportunities to Poltimore's volunteers.
  • developing the business potential of Poltimore House, as a space where businesses can flourish, and where links with business can be developed. Working with the University's MBA students provides high-level consulting skills, both supporting the development of Poltimore's business planning processes and developing students' experience of working with complex project demands.
  • working towards a sustainable 'green' future, which - through all the activities we undertake - will encourage thoughtful engagement with the parallel environmental challenges of peak oil and climate change.

Key to our future is to build capacity here at Poltimore - to build capacity for change.
We will do this by:
  • Strengthening the Trust and the Friends
  • Good governance and accountability for all projects
  • Developing and implementing our Strategic Business Plan
  • Engaging with new supporters, building partnerships
  • Engaging with new volunteers
through:
  • enhancing the availability and understanding of Poltimore's heritage
  • supporting Poltimore as a resource for education, research and training
  • encouraging Poltimore as a hub for creative enterprise
  • providing an inspiring and enterprising focal point for the community
  • encouraging creative and collaborative ways of working
